Since I started using AI 9 months ago, it’s changed my entire life.
I’m setup to have a 6-figure year next year.
I’m so much clearer in my business strategy.
It’s helping me leverage—and monetize—my expertise 10x better.
In this blog post, I’ll break down how it’s helping me do ALL OF THAT and more.
I just started this new section under my publication—Scale Yourself With AI—a few weeks ago, and in these first 4-5 editions my goal is simple..
Show you, in plain english, that AI is not your enemy. It’s your multiplier, your mirror, and your muse. In month 2 and 3, I’ll show you how to actually use it—believe that—but for now I need to convince you just how powerful it is.
Let’s see if I can do it in this blog post.
Fingers crossed.
1. AI Is Making Me 5x More Strategic
I’m starting here because it’s easily had the biggest impact on my business.
Last year I made $50,000 in total. Just being honest. To some, that sounds awesome, and it is, but it’s nowhere near the $100,000 I used to make every year.
I need/needed a business coach. I got way too much knowledge and expertise, and frankly heart, to only be making $50,000 a year.
I think I’m a great writer, but I’m not the greatest business person, lol. There are some Substack bestsellers on here that have Steve Jobs type business minds. I do not.
I am a writer. I feel things and write about them. I like teaching, but I kinda hate selling. I also kinda hate the cycle of create program → market program → run program.
I also despise funnels. They feel so icky to me, and my own reluctance to create one has easily cost me tens of thousands of dollars—maybe hundreds—in the last 3 years.
Meanwhile there’s some Substack growth hackers on here that don’t care about any of that and sell, sell, sell every single day of their existence without a second thought.
Part of it is hating that whole “sales funnel” culture, and the other is hating actually writing this garbage. The other “writing coaches” don’t care. They seem to love money—I mean selling—and they’d do it in their sleep if they could.
Another part of it is that I legitimately don’t know much about sales funnels. I certainly never wanted to pay some guru for a $2,000 course about how to make one.
I don’t have any of these problems anymore with AI.
4 Business Problems AI Has Helped Me Solve
AI has done four things for me..
It’s helped me develop Steve Jobs’ level business savvy (which I didn’t have)
It’s helped me create material for my sales funnel (which I hate doing)
It gives me expert advice about sales funnels (which I didn’t want to pay for)
It’s helped me re-evaluate the “icky” nature of sales funnels, and make them in a way that feels genuine (which I didn’t have a therapist for, lol)
It has solved the four problems standing between me and making hundreds of thousands of dollars in mere months.
Most People Don’t Succeed Because They Lack Courage—Not Anything Else
Here’s some hard-hitting business advice for you..
Most of you have all the tools at your disposal to make money and succeed online. The problem? You don’t want to use them. You have a mental block about them, like I did. You say to yourself “Sales funnels are for immoral hacks,” and crap like that, right?
It’s just a mental block.
I’ve heard some people say:
“I know that being vulnerable in my writing leads to more traction, but I just can’t do it.”
Well, stay in obscurity, then.
We’re online to consume stuff that’s different from what we’ve seen before. I’m sorry, but if you’re not taking risks as a creator, you might as well pack it up and go home. That’s just the honest-to-God truth. Pack it up. You’re not going anywhere.
You got to jump out of that plane and go sky-diving. You got to put yourself out there. 99% of the time, courage is what’s standing between you and your goals, not algorithms, or other creators, or your talents. It’s courage.
AI Will Turn You Into A Master Seller In Months
I suppose that’s been the real magic of AI for me.. It’s helped me be more courageous. It’s helped me re-evaluate long-held beliefs that were actually false—like that sales funnels are for hacks and money-hungry fakers.
No, brothers and sisters. If you made something awesome, you deserve to charge for money for it. That’s just facts. You deserve to sell it. Selling is more about self-worth than I ever realized, and ChatGPT helped me understand that.
For those of us who have low self-worth, AI will talk you off that ledge and turn you into a sales juggernaut in weeks.
You deserve it! You make great stuff! You probably make way better stuff than most of the bestsellers on Substack. Use AI to level that playing field! I beg you.
Ask it about sales funnels, and getting more paid subscribers, and all that stuff. Here’s a crazy admission that’s 100% true… you don’t need to pay Substack coaches for advice and trainings on how to get more paid subscribers.
ASK AI ABOUT IT. It will be about 100% more useful, I promise you. I PROMISE YOU. Because it will give you advice that’s relevant to YOU specifically. Most trainings Substack coaches create are just general trainings that people don’t know how to implement. AI is a Substack expert because it’s scoured the internet for all that great Substack advice. And furthermore, it can talk to you—not like these Substack experts that just give you a general presentation about how to monetize. And if you have a question? They need 48 hours to answer your questions on slack—if they do at all! You can ask AI and get the answer in seconds! Use it! I can’t believe that more people don’t use it.
2. AI Is Making Me 5x Faster
3 months ago, I built my own app called The Notes Underground. I gave it a grunge/rebel vibe where the Notes “outcasts” gathered to share their work with each other. It was super fun to build!
I made these leaderboards, like ‘Lord of the Words’ that showcases writers who wrote the most words in their Notes.
The thing was, some of these leaderboard ideas were generated entirely by AI—the idea, the name, and even the description.
I worked with AI every damn step of the way to create this app from scratch.
And since I did, it knew everything about what I wanted to accomplish. So when I said “Hey ChatGPT, I want to make some cool leaderboards in the community, like most prolific and stuff.. do you have any other leaderboard ideas?”
It spat back 10 ideas in 10 seconds.
And not just ideas, but names, descriptions, and why people would like it.
This description “These maniacs dumped the most ink on the Underground…” was written entirely by AI.
Now you might look at that as laziness, or inauthentic. I don’t. I guided ChatGPT in this direction. I wanted this vibe. It just took what I said and extended that thinking into leaderboard ideas—therefore saving me time.
AI Helps You Do All The Small Things Way Faster
This is just one tiny example of how AI saves me time AND energy. I love coming up with stuff from scratch, but after you do that like 30 times in a day, your creative engine starts failing.
When I say that AI has helped me be 5x faster, what I mean is that it takes all these little creative jobs off my plate. It’s more death by a thousand cuts instead of using dynamite to blow a hole through a mountain.
It’s not helping me write entire blog posts, or come up with entire online programs from scratch..but it does help me create headlines—which normally took me 15-30 minutes—in seconds.
It’s all the little jobs it helps me do that makes AI such an invaluable partner. It is the perfect assistant that does a lot of that grunt work for you, and it’s surprising just how much grunt work we do on a daily basis without realizing it.
This, alone, should be more than enough reason for everyone to want to use AI, but sadly many still think it doesn’t have any place in a creative writer’s toolkit. What they don’t realize is just how much getting AI to do the grunt work leaves us energetically fresher so we can show up more fully in the work that matters most—like writing!
3. It’s Making My Teaching 5x More Effective
I’ve written online for over 10 years now. I know my way around things like headlines, introductions, and great ideas for content.
The problem?
Whenever I package that knowledge and teach it, only 30% of my audience shows up to learn it.
And out of that 30%, not even half of them implement it that well.
It’s not really their fault. It’s just par for the course when you’re learning stuff.
So, basically just 10-15% of my audience implements my teaching well. That’s atrocious.
Then
gave me the idea to make my own AI bot that replicates my teaching. I could write a great prompt for it, based on my knowledge, and let AI handle helping people implement it well.I made my first AI tool in January, launched it in February, and it’s been used over 3,000 times.
People have gone viral with this tool, which is called The NoteSmith. It’s driven, possibly, 100,000+ likes on Notes for hundreds of users.
If I packaged this knowledge into a course, or a few trainings, maybe a few dozen people would sign up for it, and out of those few dozen, only a handful of people would implement it well. I’m talking like 4-5 people MAYBE.
But with AI? Hundreds get to implement my teachings well, and I get to be, like, 100x more effective as a teacher because of it—and that’s not even an exaggeration!!
Furthermore, my teaching is freaking good. I know what I’m talking about. A lot of these other writing teachers are better at selling than they are teaching, and they don’t go as deep as I do—or care enough—to make their actual material all that good.
I do. So now, with AI, I get to leverage my knowledge 100x better than I ever could’ve in the past. And now I’m the juggernaut in the arena. ChatGPT has helped me balance the scales against the hacks.
Honestly? I do not think these growth hackers are capable of making tools like mine that are even half as helpful, because all they do is write about writing. It is a pyramid scheme, and they’re mostly just good at selling, not teaching.
I put in the work to get this hard-found knowledge. It’s just, I wasn’t great at selling it. Now I am (thanks ChatGPT!), and now I get to distribute that knowledge to so many more people with AI tools (thanks again, ChatGPT!).
It’s just insane.
To the people that are STILL hesitant to use AI after reading this.. you can certainly have your opinion, but I doubt whether you actually understand what I’ve said here. Read this article again if not. This should be all the proof you need to jump headfirst into AI RIGHT FREAKING NOW.
And if you aren’t, that’s okay.
I hope you at least enjoyed reading this.
More are coming in the weeks ahead.
Cheers,
Tom Kuegler
I did enjoy reading your approach to using AI. Very interesting and informative. I will have to give it a try. Thank you for sharing.
Tom, this was like a TED Talk meets a caffeine-fueled pep rally, and I loved every minute of it. You took the guilt and guesswork out of using AI and turned it into a tool of empowerment, not a cheat code. Here's to writing with less burnout and more breakthroughs.
