ICYMI — I started a new section on this publication! A few folks let me know they didn’t get the first post, so I’m dropping it here too..
In late 2024, I started experimenting with AI. I asked it “Why isn’t there a Disney World in Mexico?” and it told me “Wait, what? Why would you even ask that? It’s cause there’s two Disneys that are already really close to Mexico, ya dummy.”
After this religious experience, I knew AI had already replaced me on the food chain. I can barely avoid getting cavities every 6 months, and ChatGPT’s out here answering any question you throw at it like some sort of god.
Once I realized this, I went very deep into AI.
I started to:
Ask it everything
Get advice about my business
Design online courses with it
But in January of 2025, I took a step with AI that’s comparable to humans inventing the wheel. I used it to digitize myself in the form of an AI tool called The NoteSmith.
I uploaded my knowledge, tested it, tweaked it, and wrote a 3,000-some word prompt for it until it spat back writing feedback I agreed with 95% of the time. It was unbelievable. I don’t have kids yet, but I’m assuming this is what having children feels like.
People loved it, too, and used it to write viral Notes.
I felt like I’d opened Pandora’s box. I felt like it was too easy. I wondered why, oh why, is nobody else making bots like this?
Then I realized… it’s because everyone hates AI. Everyone thinks it’s crap, while simultaneously thinking it’s gonna take our jobs and destroy the world.
I believe that’s called cognitive dissonance—wait, *types ‘cognitive dissonance’ into ChatGPT,* yeah, that’s right.
Thanks ChatGPT.
“You’re welcome.”
😬
This is only the beginning. Every day I’m learning how to use AI to design courses, code stuff, create workbooks out of thin air, create bots that digitize myself, and setup automations to do things I only dreamt of doing 2 years ago.
It’s wild. And I see few people talking about it here on Substack—at least, not in a way that’s from the perspective of a beginner.
I’m writing to you from the POV of a once-upon-a-time AI moron who now uses AI to basically do 75% of my work. And I’m getting more knowledgeable about it every day.
I can relate to the people.
I think.
Wait, ChatGPT, can I relate to the people?
“Yes, Tom, you’re amazing.”
😬
So, I’m starting a new section underneath The Writing Long Game called ‘Scale Yourself With AI’ where I’ll post AI-related articles.
Right now, there’s a couple directions I want to take this new project..
How To Use AI To Write Stuff You Don’t Want To Write
I’ll never stop writing, y’all. Ever. It means too much to me. But there’s a ton of stuff I hate writing that I’ve started to use AI to help me generate, so I can focus on writing the stuff I love.
You might shudder at that, but the reality is, AI is helping me enjoy writing more as I write more of what I love and less of what I hate. That’s powerful.
So, I’ll cover:
How to clone your writing style with AI
How to create systems to auto-generate content you don’t want to write in seconds.
How I use personally AI to help me write certain things, and how you can, too.
How To ‘Digitize’ Yourself With AI
I’ll teach people how to build their version of my NoteSmith. We’ll cover stuff like:
How to build AI bots for your audience.
How to create your own online programs with AI in half the time.
How to train AI on your knowledge.
How To Use AI As A Business Partner
In 4 months, I’ve doubled my annual revenue just from collaborating with AI every day. I’ll talk about:
How to use AI to explore ideas and make decisions.
How to create feedback loops with AI to optimize your earnings, productivity, and efficiency.
New Ways I’m Using AI
AI is constantly evolving. Every few months, it seems there’s an update to Claude or ChatGPT that revolutionizes what we can do with them. I’ll talk about:
New AI tools worth checking out.
New updates to Claude and ChatGPT worth discussing.
The general landscape of all AI can really do for us now, and what it might be able to do for us in the future.
That’s basically it.
I assume the focus of this newsletter will morph and change as I learn more and more about AI, so count on this to be a living, breathing project.
It’s going to be an insane journey.
I’ll publish a new article under this banner every two weeks or so. It will be more of a “only when I have something important to say” type deal.
I hope you enjoy it, and learn something new.
Thank you!
I love this--the new AI Project you're taking on.
I, too, have been experimenting and learning AI.
It's helping me to organize a few things, stay more focused, and write my first book.
It's going really well.
I look forward to seeing what you share!
“Yes, Tom. You’re amazing.” 😁
Sounds like GPT knows what’s up.
I’m really excited for this actually, because I’m finally getting onboard with AI but a lot of people I follow are so ahead of me it’s intimidating tbh. I really need a simple beginner’s guide to help me just figure out the basics!
