1 Note Critique
Note critiques are the best part of my paid offering. On Thursday, December 12, I’ll let paid subscribers share a Note of theirs in my chat to get critiqued. Here’s one I did just recently:
I go deep with people. You got to see it to understand it. Here’s an example of a critique I gave
about this Note she wrote.“Hey Casey! Thanks for becoming a paid subscriber. I hope this can be helpful to you. Okay so for me, it's hard to understand what your opening line means. What does it mean to illuminate the gold within me? What does alchemical process mean? With the help of context I get later on in your Note, I think I understand what you mean, but it's not a given that the audience will get that far because they might've been confused by the first line. Does finding the gold within oneself mean to discover and value the beauty we have in ourselves? It makes sense with context, but with Notes every word needs to make sense quickly or else people won't read until the necessary context. I guess my advice is to just try to make your Note a little more accessible to more people. Your publication name is the Gold Within. Would someone who has no idea what you write about be able to immediately start nodding their heads after reading the first line of your Note? That could be a good question to ask yourself in general in the future when you write more Notes. I think your message sounds really positive and I think people would benefit from reading your work for sure. Try to give them an opportunity to understand by starting with the absolute basics. Dumb it down for us a little bit. 😇 I hope that makes sense. Let me know if you have any follow up questions here. By the way, I really like this note from you:
It reminds me of the kinds of stories my friend Michael Thompson tells about his kids. You might want to check him out. https://substack.com/@shybydesign I think the opening of that line about your son could've been something like "Last night my son surprised the heck out of me." or something like that, then get into the story. Let me know what you think.”
