I'm excited to see how Substack & I will work together. I'm world building & writing fiction, so different world, but I really like the people I've met here so far.

I just received your post "The Real Reason Nobody Cares About Your Blog Posts" in my weekly stack and it resonated so much with me! Loved reading this post and excited to join you on your writing journey!

Woah that’s so cool! I was wondering why my older articles were getting so much traction lately. The Weekly Stack is awesome! :)

Do you ever wonder whether Substack will end up the same way as Medium though. I already see it become similar with all the follow for a follow crap and “How I made a million with my first post” articles.

It feels like the unique voices that tell stories about their dogs and shoes etc are getting swallowed up by the how to write on Substack articles.

Having followed you for years on different platforms I wondered what your take is on stopping this happening and keeping this platform for such a range of genres?

Hey Sam! I think Substack is already taking actions against this type of content. For example my Notes about writing in the summer would sometimes get 4,000+ likes and go absolutely mega viral. Not anymore. I’d be lucky to get over 100 likes on a Note about writing now. I think Substack will continue to take steps to allow other types of content to flourish here because they already have over the last 6 months or so. I also think more people need to use that mute button.

I also think we need better writing coaches! I want to help people share their unique stories. My students do just that, and some of them have even gone viral for it. I hope that my overall impact on the platform has been a net positive because of that. If writing coaches are actually doing their job, then we will see more incredible thought-provoking content on Substack, not less.

It’s good to hear I have always valued your advice and agree we need good writing coaches but many I have followed just teach you how to write writing articles. Yawn. You are not one of those so hopefully you can bring some more diverse voices to the platform.
