Oof! I just went live for the first time on Substack and it was so nerve-wracking. If you made it, thanks for coming!
I talked a bit about AI today and why I was wrong about it initially.
Here’s some timestamps.👇
Timestamps
1. My Journey from AI Skeptic to Supporter (00:00)
I discussed how I initially HATED ChatGPT for 2 years.
How I thought that AI had no place in a writer's toolkit, period.
2. My First Positive AI Experiences (06:00)
That all changed once I started asking AI questions—like why there isn’t a Disney World in Mexico—and seeing the incredible responses.
I thought it was crazy how AI could just write up a detailed, intelligent 1,000-word response in seconds.
3. How AI Helped Me Understand My Own Writing (10:00)
I got AI to analyze all 50-some Note feedbacks I gave to writing students, and it taught me things about my writing system I never even knew!
4. Creating AI Tools for Writers (15:00)
I explained how exactly I built the NoteSmith tool to replicate my Notes feedback.
Why AI tools like the NoteSmith teach students better than online courses or live trainings can.
Why AI tools are going to revolutionize online teaching (!!!)
5. AI as an Assistant, Not a Replacement (20:00)
I emphasized—WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING—that AI should be used as a writing assistant, not to write for you from scratch.
I clarified that I use AI for analysis, strategy, and editing—not creating original content.
2 Big Takeaways From This Live
My favorite part from this live session was when I said “AI helps me KNOW ME more than I do.”
I was talking about how I’ve used AI to analyze my own stories, writing, and my own feedback, so it can tell me things about myself I may not even be aware of.
We always hear that AI is so robotic and impersonal, but in reality if you do a good job feeding it your ideas, writing, and story, it will help you discover things about yourself you never thought of. If used well, AI can literally be the opposite of impersonal.
Normally I hate hearing myself talk, but here’s another great quote from the live session today "AI was trained on everything that human beings have done in the history of humanity [...] it's going to be able to give you good advice."
A lot of people might think AI is useless or a crappy writer, but in reality AI was trained on all the smartest humans who have ever lived. It’s going to be able to give you good business advice if you use it for something other than getting writing feedback (which I do!). Try it out! It’s like the world’s most polite know-it-all.
Paid Subscriber Prices Go Up Tomorrow
Also, I just wanted to remind you that I’ve raised monthly prices to The Writing Long Game to $18 per month and $145 per year. Until midnight tomorrow, though, you can become a paid subscriber at $17 per month or $136 per year. Sign up here to get the lowest price that will ever be available.
I will be raising prices in April with the launch of a brand new Notes challenge that will knock your socks off.
Also, I just launched The NoteFinder, which transforms your blog posts into viral-worthy Notes in seconds. The trial version turns 1 article into 3 Notes instantly. To use it, just:
Copy and paste your article text into the NoteFinder.
Hit enter.
Watch it create 3 Note drafts instantly.
And the coolest part is, it’s actually YOUR WRITING!
If you want to try it out for free, sign up for it here.
You’ll be given 3 tokens (or 3 uses) for this tool.
If you want the premium version, which gives you 5 Notes instead of 3, become a paid subscriber to The Writing Long Game right here. You’ll also get 50 tokens per month instead of 3.
Thanks for coming today!
